Things to Know

The gardens are a showcase for the ages. See how the gardens benefit the insects & wildlife of the area, the 8,000 spring bulbs and the old fashioned scented roses.

HISTORY OF SUDELEY CASTLE: Of all the castles in Gloucestershire, none have seen as much war, romance and royalty as Sudeley.

  • The castle was a base for Richard III during the Wars of the Roses and saw battle during the Civil War – look out for the cannon ball hole that can still be seen in the Octagon Tower.
  • Four of England’s queens – Anne Boleyn, Katherine Parr, Lady Jane Grey and Elizabeth I – visited the castle and Katherine Parr lived and died here. Visitors can view her tomb, located in St Mary’s Church, as well as the love letters she wrote to Thomas Seymour.
